East Timor 2013
Equal Health's team of volunteers provided 1,066 of the world's most vulnerable people with relief from dental pain in East Timor last year. It's amazing the difference this can make to people's lives.
After a successful 2012, our partner in East Timor is keen to continue and further develop our partnership next year so we can help more people have much needed access to dental care.
Dr Ross Brandon is Head of Clinic Café Timor which is the health branch of Café Cooperativa Timor and our local partner. He reported that all the communities visited in 2012 enthusiastically requested the program return in 2013 and beyond.
Logistically we have found the best team is a single dentist and an assistant. The assistant can range from another dentist to a well trained amateur assistant (not necessarily a qualified assistant) as field work requires limited skill sets.
By volunteering you can make a significant difference by providing free dental care to some of the world's poorest people who generally don't have access to dental care.
According to our team of health professionals and communities we serve, an appointment with Equal Health really is life changing, both for the people we serve and our volunteers.
The first trip for 2013 will be in the first two weeks of March and we also plan to send volunteers in May, June, July, August, September and November.
Applications are merit based, however, as there are only a limited number of places available, positions will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

"It was a unique opportunity to experience the country and at the same time offer some services that are not often available to the local people. This type of trip makes you appreciate the things we take for granted at home."
