COVID-19 crisis assistance to Tamil Nadu
The impact of the pandemic has been firmly felt across India, with by our dear friends and associates in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal feeling the brunt of both the health and economic consequences. Thanks to our generous donors and volunteers, Equal Health was able to donate $15,000 in April to support the impressive work SEVAI is undertaking in response to the pandemic. This includes feeding migrant workers who have found themselves out of work, distributing hygiene kits for the children and elderly in the villages, and providing widespread education about preventative measures to those living in the remotes areas. Our partners are not unaccustomed to hardship, having responded to several disasters such as tsunami, floods, cyclones etc. in the past. However the COVID-19 situation is very different, as the timeline and severity of the crisis remains unknown. Our thoughts and prayers are with our partners as they navigate this difficult time, and despite Equal Health not being there on the ground to assist the efforts of our partners, we hope to continue supporting relief measures where we can.
Equal Health has been able continue to support its Indian partners by way of cash donations. In the case of SEVAI in Trichy Tamil Nadu, the majority of Equal Health’s donation was used to assist a COVID support project, which provided food packages for local people that were unable to work during the many months of lockdown. We made a donation of $31,000 for 2021.
